Vegan meets Gluten-Free

Vegan Meets Gluten-Free

I left New York a couple weeks ago and flew to Minneapolis for a
camping trip in the Boundary Waters. While I enjoyed the culinary
compositions my friend Steve created at our campsite, my friend
Liz back in NYC enjoyed local tomatoes and spinach from my CSA
share.

Shells, Squash and Summertime CSAs

Shells, Squash and Summertime CSAs

It's been a little chilly upstate New York, and not so rainy weather
has delayed some growth at the farm. My CSA share yesterday was minimal.
I got one tiny squash a few red onions, tomatoes, beets, baby greens and
garlic. We love garlic!

The past few weeks I've been getting a load I can barely hold in the
crowded subway. Yesterday's tiny load fit into a canvas bag with plenty

I love GF Blueberry Pancakes!

I love GF Blueberry Pancakes!

This morning I woke up and made some delicious local-blueberry, gluten-free pancakes.
Last week I was lucky to be allowed to pick up a friend’s fruit share at the CSA, and

and didn’t need maple syrup.

These vegetables I consume at this restaurant needed no carbon
emissions to arrive here. A person literally walked across the
street. And Phoebe’s is socially responsible by supporting its
business neighbors.

Lucky me, I get what?

Garlic scapes

I picked up my first CSA share on Thursday and I want to know two things.
What the heck is a garlic scape? And how did I reach the ripe age of 25
without experiencing this ridiculous vegetable?

A woman picking up her share exclaimed that this was such a great quantity
and variety of vegetables for our first batch of the year. Aside from

The District Eats Local Too!

The District Eats Local Too!

I hopped on a bus at Penn Station Friday afternoon and headed south to Washington,
DC to visit some old friends. Although I’ve only been away from DC for a year I was
surprised to be reminded not only of the torrential summer humidity, but also of
the many fresh market or local options.
