Orb Weaver Farm is a small diversified dairy farm located on the New Haven-Monkton line. Since 1981 we have grown organic vegetables and made Farmhouse Cheese. Fifteen generations of Jersey cows have supplied the milk for our farmhouse cheese.
Following the seasons, we make cheese from November until May, and grow vegetables from spring through fall.
Our very earliest marketing efforts recognized the importance of local food production, and our first markets were the Middlebury Food Coop and area restaurants. Today, 29 years later, the Coop remains the main outlet for both our vegetables and cheese. Starting at the end of May with lettuce and winding up in the late fall with broccoli ( and shallots through the winter) we enjoy working closely with the great folks in the produce department to bring our community the highest quality vegetables. Other crops we grow include peppers (both green and colored), tomatoes (cherry, plum and slicers… all grown in the garden), and eggplant.
Providing food to our community has always been of the utmost importance to us. All of our vegetables and 98% of our cheese is marketed within 25 miles of the farm.
The localvore movement has contributed greatly to the awareness of supporting local agriculture and with support of the coop and their wonderful staff, we are proud to be a part of this effort.
