All of our local fruit is sold locally and grown without the use of pesticides and only chicken manure for fertilizer.
The farm has been in organic production since 1987 and is certified by the state of California. The small size of our operation doesn’t justify the cost of a certifying agency.
We use drip irrigation to conserve water and also plant a perennial cover crop on the orchard floor.
Cover crops help retain moisture and soil health. Our cover crops or grasses are mowed twice during the spring and early summer. The cuttings are allowed to decompose back into the orchard soil and serve as a compost. Our fruit is hand picked and packaged and never shipped out of the area.
We do not use copper or oil as organic pesticides, because it changes the texture of the fruit’s skin. We also grow some peaches which we sell from the farm.
Fruitwood Farm is owned and operated by Kirk Terrill and his wife Roberta Coragliotti.
They have one son, Will, who also helps on the farm.
